Biography Adam Hoad-Reddick qualified from Manchester University in 1994 and underwent training as a junior doctor in the Manchester region before being appointed to the Mersey Specialist Registrar Training Rotation in Orthopaedic Surgery. Sub-specialist training was undertaken at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston MA, at Wrightington Hospital, and for his last year of training as the Cavendish Hip Fellow and Clinical Lecturer in Orthopaedics at Sheffield University and the Northern General Hospital. Mr Hoad-Reddick is now as a consultant in Hip and Knee surgery at Wrightington Hospital. Areas of special interest include complex primary total hip replacement, the young arthritic hip, and revision hip and knee replacement (particularly associated with infection and/or bone loss). In addition he is an instructor in advanced trauma life support. He is actively involved in research into hip and knee replacement and has presented work to regional, national and international audiences. Current research interests include the management of prosthetic (artificial) joint infection and the management of bone deficiency. Outside work he is married with a young family and enjoys sports including walking and sailing (racing RS 400 dinghies badly at national events!). Clinical Philosophy The numbers of hip and knee replacements being performed in the UK are dramatically rising. This combined with increasing patient expectations and some commercially driven marketing has lead to a huge number of different options being available to patients. Mr Hoad-Reddick and his team aim to offer patients the best option for them with a view towards the long-term management of their problematic joint. He does not advocate early surgery and employs a team approach to their management. When symptoms dictate he discusses the appropriate surgical options with the patient in order to decide on the timing and nature of planned intervention. The decision for surgery is made by the patient having discussed surgical options and potential complications. Details of his more commonly performed operations are listed.
